Who We Are
The Capital Area Chapter (CAC) of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association is a non-profit organization of piano, voice and instrumental instructors who teach independently in private studios and area colleges. CAC-PMTA was founded in 1979 and is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) - the oldest professional music organization in the United States, founded in 1889 and serving music teachers for more than 120 years.
In 35 years the CAC Chapter has grown from 15 members to 50 members. Activities and events include student honor recitals, workshops on specialized music topics, encouraging teachers to share teaching concerns and successes, sponsoring a local Capital Area Music Festival, awarding summer music camp scholarships, awarding the Julia Benfer Scholarship for financially needy music students, and a Piano Extravaganza held every third year a the Forum in Harrisburg, PA
