The Capital Area Chapter of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association is a non-profit organization of piano, voice and instrumental instructors who teach independently in private studios and area colleges.  CAC-PMTA was founded in 1979 and is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) - the oldest professional music organization in the United States, founded in 1889 and serving music teachers for more than 120 years.


In 35 years the CAC Chapter has grown from 15 members to over 50 members. Activities and events include student honor recitals, workshops on specialized music topics, encouraging teachers to share teaching concerns and sucesses,sponsoring a local Capital Area Music Festival, awarding summer music camp scholarships, a Julia Benfer Partial Scholarship for a financially needy gifted music student, a multi-piano Extravaganza empting to expand members' musical and pedagogical horizons.Concert every three years, occasionally hosting a State Conference (PMTA) and constantly attempting to expand members' musical and pedagogical horizons.
