Who We Are
The Capital Area Chapter (CAC) of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association is a non-profit organization of piano, voice and instrumental instructors who teach independently in private studios and area colleges. CAC-PMTA was founded in 1979 and is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) - the oldest professional music organization in the United States, founded in 1889 and serving music teachers for more than 120 years.

In 35 years CAC of PMTA has grown from 15 members to 50 members. The first meeting was held at the home of Norma Swain of Camp Hill on June 6, 1079. Activities and events include student honor recitals, guest lectures and workshops on pertinent music topics, encouragement of teachers to share teaching concerns and successes, an annual Capital Area Music Festival, summer music camp scholarships, Julia Benfer Scholarship for financially needy and gifted music students, and a Piano Extravaganza held every third year a the Forum in Harrisburg, PA
The mission of MTNA is to advance the value of music study and music making in society and to support the professionalism of music teachers.
